05/16/2012 GaslandAm presents the Open Academy of the Munich Adult Education with the Oscar-nominated documentary "Gasland" (USA 2010), the next film in the series "Green Vision", this time on the water. Hydraulic fracturing - also called Fracking - refers to a method of deep drilling for natural gas in the water is pumped under high pressure into dense rock is to release the gas in the pores. In the U.S., this procedure is already used across the board, just tested in North Rhine-Westphalia. For the digestion of a borehole 16-112 million liters of water are needed, where sand and a variety of highly toxic substances are being added. The film shows, among other things, like the poisonous water under high pressure is pumped into the ground water system - with fatal side effects, of which burning is only a tap water.

When the American director and environmental activist John Fox in February 2012 tried to film a session of the Committee for hydraulic fracturing in the House of Representatives, he was arrested. His documentary "Gas Land" was nominated for an Oscar in 2010.

Following the film screening is Dr. Werner Zittel of Germany ASPO (Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas) for discussion.

This screening takes place in cooperation with the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society, International ECOMOVE and the Ecological Education Center Munich.
